Part of the sale of these batik paintings goes towards the respective artist to support their financially disadvantaged families.

It has to be mentioned that Rokiah (Kia) has spent most of her teenage life in Kota Kinabalu, Sandakan and Keningau and she has a soft spot in her heart for these young talented batik artists and she refers them as “Anak-Anak Sabah”.

IMG_0429A couple of weeks ago she travelled to Kota Kinabalu to introduce a client, Ms Fong, to the Art of Batik painting by UCSF students.

This visit did not only give an insight into the artist’s work, but the two ladies were also invited to some of the artists’ humble homes in Keningau.

“It was quite emotional to drive back to Keningau and to revisit areas and places where I have spent wonderful years of growing up”, says Kia.

Of course the town of Keningau has grown and so the population and lots of improvement by the State Government could be noticed. “What took us one full day in the older days to drive from Kota Kinabalu to Keningau, took us only 2 ½ hours’ drive. “A visit to Keningau is a Must, while visiting Sabah”, proudly outlines Rokiah.

Kia Klemenz has a gallery in the boutique with a wide selection of batik paintings, from abstract to more traditional, and with beautiful designs of plants & tropical flowers, sea life and/or butterflies.

Drop in and the Kia Klemenz Gifts & Souvenir boutique is located at the new entrance of Taman Botani Perdana Kuala Lumpur, close to Masjid Bukit Aman and Police headquarter and opposite the new parking house.

Open daily from 9.00am till sunset

Batik is a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to a piece of cloth such as Chiffon, Silk Jacquard, Cotton, Silk Crepe, Silk Rayon, etc..

Batik designs are first sketched by pencil, followed by drawing dots and lines of the resist with a spouted tool called a canting. It allows for fine detailing and control. The liquid wax is collected in a copper cup and then allowed to run down the narrow spout, which is directed by hand, to follow design lines.

The applied wax resists dyes and therefore allows the artisan to color selectively by soaking the cloth in one colour, removing the wax with boiling water, and repeating if multiple colours are desired.

Only locally sourced grown leaves, flowers, fruits and bark are used to produce dye. These plant products will be soaked, boiled, and then strained and the resulting liquid used as natural dye.

The Art of Batik Printing

Batik Parios Kia Klemenz Gifts & Souvenirs

The beautiful and unique batik designs on Parios or T-shirts are made by using a technique of wax-resist dyeing applied to a whole piece of fabric, usually made out of cotton or Rayon.

Batik Copper Stamp

Batik Copper Stamp

The Batik patterns are made by printing the resist with a stamp called “cop”.

Firstly, the batik fabric is carefully laid on a table top that is equipped with a thin sponge layer beneath a vinyl covering.

The custom-made copper or tin stamps are dipped in a shallow tray of hot and liquid wax and carefully pressed onto the fabric. This process is repeated until the fabric is decorated with the desired arrangement of one or several motifs.

This air purifier for the car is a safe, reliable and maintenance free device, at an affordable price. It is a small price to pay for the wellbeing of your health. Purchase of the product comes with a 2-year warranty.

What is ozone?

Ozone is a gas naturally generated in the upper levels of the atmosphere, and works to protect us from harmful radiation. It can effectively kill viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites, including those causing food spoilage or human diseases.

Commercial applications of ozone include purification of drinking water, sterilization of containers for aseptic packaging, decontamination of fresh produce, and food preservation in cold storage. Ozone also is useful in deodorizing air and water.

O3 destroys microorganisms instantly and effectively. No harmful residues are left in treated air, food or water. Therefore, Ozone is safer and environmentally more friendly than most other antimicrobials.

O3 gas cannot be stored and must be produced on-site and instantly used because of its unstable nature. However, it does not need any chemical except air or oxygen, hence is clean, efficient and the preferred sanitizer.
